Introduction
SPHERICAL (ROTARY) VALVE : For Hydro Power Plant
A spherical valve is a high pressure isolating valve used at the inlet of the turbines, these valves perform the function of isolating water turbines and emergency closure against turbine trips.
Spherical valves are used
When the penstock pressure near the turbine is high.
When the pressure drop across the valve is to be minimal.
When the Turbine flow rate is high.
Features
Spherical valve – Features
These valves are with split body and full bore design to ensure minimal pressure drop for highest power output.
Valves can be offered with Single or Double Seal design depending on project requirement Resilient seals for low pressure applications, Metallic seats for high pressure applications or a combination of the two for double seal design. In the Double Seal arrangement the maintenance seal is placed at the penstock side of the rotor and permits maintenance or replacement of the main seal while the penstock is under maximum pressure. Pressurized oil or the penstock water is utilised for operating sealing arrangement.
Spherical valves are operated by hydraulic actuation using double acting cylinder for opening and closing by the counter weight. Optionally Opening and Closing by double acting cylinder.
Under turbine over run condition or any other emergency condition the spherical valve will automatically close quickly to protect the turbine.
Self lubricating, corrosion resistant bearings to provide long life even under high concentration of silt in water.
The valve is provided with a locking device to prevent unintended operation from either open or close position.
Seat / Seal and guides are made from stainless steel materials to prevent galvanic corrosion,.
A hydraulic interlock and mechanical locking arrangement prevent the valve from moving when the maintenance seal is activated.
